AKRON, OH—November 10, 2016, Leeanna Simmons, Director at Colonial Preparatory Academy was nominated as Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools’ School Leader of the Year!
Each year the Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools (OAPCS) calls for nominations for School Leader and Teacher of the year. The winner is picked from the selection of nominations and announced at the annual OAPCS Annual Conference. This year the conference will be held December 7–8 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Columbus Convention Center and will feature a keynote presentation on “Creating a Climate and Culture for Success.”
The two other School Leader of the Year Nominees are Anthony Gatto of The Arts and College Preparatory Academy and Sandra White of Findlay Digital Academy.
Those who submit nominations are asked to include an essay that explains what makes the school leader so exceptional. The essay prompt asks about how this school leader enhanced or changed the lives of their teachers and students, measurable accomplishments (such as teacher ratings, awards or improved test scores), teaching or classroom innovations, fostering a culture of achievement and opportunity, and the ripple effect of their work – on their community, their students’ families and any impact seen beyond the classroom.
Leeanna has worked in education for 10 years and has served in many positions within the Cambridge schools, including Assistant Principal at Middlebury Academy.
“It is important to me that we maintain a focus on academic progress, safety, and parental involvement,” says Ms. Simmons, “I have always loved learning and strongly feel that we must work as a team to nurture this same type of love in each student. Our families are an important part of our team, and we encourage consistent parental involvement throughout the school year.”
Colonial Prep Academy was also named Momentum Award winners by the Ohio Board of Education based on their 2014–2015 Ohio School Report Card. The Momentum Award recognizes schools that have received A’s on every value-added measure included on Ohio’s School Report Cards.
Ms. Simmons is clearly doing something right! Congratulations Leeanna!
