DOP High School Truancy Officer—Columbus

The Truancy Officer is responsible for providing services to the school in the investigation and counseling of students with excessive attendance problems. Position enforces the provision of truancy laws in the respective County.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret attendance policies and implements the policy within the school
  • Gathers and reviews attendance data to identify students who are excessively truant
  • Assesses students with attendance concerns and makes home visits to assess barriers
  • Collaborates with school staff to develop and implement truancy prevention programs for assigned schools and recommends strategies to support and improve regular school attendance (i.e.: incentives, mentor program, recognitions)
  • Serves as liaison between school and agencies such as social services and court services
  • Prepare and maintains necessary records and reports
  • Ensuring confidentiality of students and their families
  • Participates in all meetings as required
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned

Working Environment
