Making a case for making a difference.
Cambridge Education Group has a proven track record working with charter schools—ranging from new start-up schools to existing schools. Whether they’re a troubled institution needing a “turn-around” partner or just seeking an alternative management company, Cambridge Education Group is here to help make a difference. The following are just a few case-study examples of Cambridge’s results.
Start-up School Successes
Winton Preparatory Academy
Winton Prep is a new K–8 charter school serving a diverse, inner-city student population. Cambridge identified a beautiful former public-school building and with a partner rehabilitated the facility into one of Cincinnati’s most grand and historic schools. Through Cambridge Education Group’s innovative marketing and community outreach efforts, which included initiatives ranging from the most current social-media tactics to grassroots neighborhood door-to-door campaigns, Winton achieved a surplus in its first year of enrollment. Cambridge’s strong building leadership, along with ongoing enrollment and outreach efforts, will more than double the enrollment for the school’s second year and continue to provide excellent academic outcomes.
Existing School Equity and Academic Growth
Towpath Trail High School
Towpath Trail is a ten-year old dropout recovery charter high school serving a diverse, low-income inner-city student population in downtown Akron Ohio. The school’s enrollment had been declining and its management company had neglected the staff and facility.
The board hired Cambridge Education Group to turn the school around and provide the board security through independence from assets controlled by a management company. Cambridge identified a dilapidated former retail storefront and rehabilitated the building into a modern, edgy facility that appeals to the over-aged high-school population that Towpath serves.
Through strong leadership provided by Cambridge Education Group, in less than 18 months, the school more than doubled enrollment, purchased all of its own new assets, purchased the building, and has achieved academic gains well above any competing school. Our new innovative facility and creative community outreach efforts drove a first-year enrollment enough to ensure a surplus and down payment for the building purchase. Cambridge’s ongoing enrollment and outreach efforts provided more than a doubling of enrollment for the school’s second year. Likewise, sound leadership and an exceptional staff will ensure continued excellent academic outcomes.
Insolvent School 12-month Turn-around
Invictus High School
Invictus High School is an eight year old dropout-recovery high school serving a diverse, inner-city student population in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The school’s enrollment had been declining and its management company had neglected the staff and facility. The board hired Cambridge Education Group to turn the school around and provide the board security through independence from assets controlled by a management company. Within months of taking over, it was clear that the school was insolvent and an aggressive “work-out” plan would be required.
Cambridge Education Group negotiated concessions from the landlord, secured outside financing for a six-figure cash infusion, reduced the staff to match then-current low enrollment, and even provided the school a term loan directly from Cambridge to ensure the required cash flow.
Through strong leadership provided by Cambridge Education Group, in less than 12 months the school more than doubled enrollment, purchased all new furniture and equipment, paid back all of its debts, and is now opening a new satellite location to enable further growth.
